Who we are
The Compassionate Communication Center of Ohio shares the principles and practices of Compassionate-Nonviolent Communication (NVC), as developed by the American psychologist, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, and inspired by the nonviolence teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Founded in 2006, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Columbus, Ohio, USA that works in partnership with other regional NVC organizations throughout the world, and with the international organization founded by Dr. Rosenberg, the Center for Nonviolent Communication.
We engage compassion by connecting through common needs, transforming conflict, and enhancing quality of life for ourselves and others through the principles and practices of Compassionate Nonviolent Communication.
TO PROVIDE Programming that cultivates self-awareness, personal growth and connections/relationships to deepen
TO DEVELOP Outreach, because NVC has never been more needed
TO EXPAND Leadership, so everyone is empowered to engage with confidence
We strive to understand ourselves and others without judgment and to communicate without bias. We work together to identify outcomes in which everyone’s needs are attended to, leading to deeper connections and an embrace of our common humanity.
We endeavor to live according to our values, practicing what we teach. We recognize that we have choices even in difficult situations. We cultivate authentic awareness of our feelings and needs in each moment.
Inclusiveness and Collaboration
We seek opportunities to share with and learn from everyone. We cultivate diversity, interdependence, and collaboration.
Sustainability and Balance
We seek a balance between giving and receiving that supports emotional and financial well-being. We want to bring a spirit of joy, fun, and play to all we do.
We strive to express ourselves from the heart with transparency and vulnerability. We openly take responsibility for our thoughts, feelings, needs, and actions.
We commit to foster the spirit and practice of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in everything we do.
Connecting with our hearts is our highest value.
We value everyone’s needs equally.
Gratitude and celebration are the underlying energy of what we do.
How we do something is as important as what we do.
We will operate in the spirit of social entrepreneurship.
We celebrate and give thanks for every resource entrusted to our care, and fully commit to use them wisely and ethically.
